"Animals
are Angelic Conspirators™ that know no
boundaries and will stop at nothing to bring you abundant love and happiness."
DEAR
ANIMAL LOVERS, Welcome to the World of Animal Parenting™,
and now that you're here, you may be asking: what in the world is Animal
Parenting™?? Simply
put, Animal Parenting™ is honoring nature's way of raising
and maintaining our 4-footed family members. WHO
CAN BENEFIT FROM VISITING HERE? 1)
Anyone who relates to the following
statement and wishes they didn't: “If I'm paying the rent/mortgage,
how come my cat/dog is in charge of the house?” 2)
Any Animal Lover that loves
and appreciates animals, and is dedicated to gaining more knowledge
as to how they can be a part of the solution, to saving animal and human
lives, as well as achieve maximal behavioral and physiological health
for their animal, with minimal intervention 3)
Anyone who wants to share their
life with an animal, but may never have had one before, and would like
to learn all they can about their care and what incredible resources
they are for all of us. WHO
ARE YOUR TOUR GUIDES? As
your primary guide, my name is Dr. Joann
Marie Donahoe, DVM
and I am a Housecall Veterinarian from Carmel, California. I address
both behavioral and physiological problems in my housecall practice
here on the Monterey Peninsula. The premise of my practice is prevention
and education, and to that end I'm dedicated to providing the public
with preventive and solution-oriented maps to health, for the 4-footed
Angels in their lives. And fortunately, since God gave me the mouth
that ate New York, I'm committed to being a voice for the voiceless
that speak with their hearts. My Associate and Ambassador
of Love and Joy on this journey is my blind-from-birth teacup Pomeranian
named Sonith Balonith the Bandit Kisser, aka Superbear, Sugarbear,
Heartbeat, Son of Sons, Boogaloo Down Broadway, Bun Bun Baroozer, Toto
Man with the Lala Pants, and last but not least Tosey*. (Have
I scared you yet?) Tosey
was brought into my life by a magical moment of synchronicity 13 years
ago, when I was privileged to rescue him from euthanasia, and he has
been the Angel on my shoulder ever since. He has been truly one
of my most amazing mentors, since being a seeing-eye person for a dog,
gives you an incredible perspective, and an opportunity to see and understand
the world from an animal's point of view. Tosey
also has a harem of seeing-eye cats, all of whom he rescued,
and will be seen at different times on the site as well, sharing perspectives
from a cat's point of view. WHAT'S
OUR COLLECTIVE GOAL? Simply
put, our goal is to save lives and provide a map to achieve the greatest
PEACE, HEALTH and BALANCE in the relationship with
the animals that share our lives. This
site not only comes to you from a veterinary professional and
a 4-footed Angel, but it is a tribute and a thank you and a celebration
for 30 years as a veterinary professional, and a lifetime as an Animal
Lover. Not coincidentally, its birthdate is November 28, 2002 - Thanksgiving Day, in
appreciation for the 2-footed, 4-footed, finned, furred and feathered
Angels that bless our lives. They
need our help more than ever right now to resolve 2 major epidemics:
1.) Animal Abandonment - 10-20 million animals
are being killed and or abandoned at shelters, yearly. The number one
reason animals are abandoned is behavioral. 2.)
Animal Aggression - Over 5 million dog bites
happen yearly. This does not even include the numbers of people affected
by cat bites! Again, the reason is behavioral. WHAT
THREE WORDS DESCRIBE THIS EPIDEMIC? In
my experience, this is an epidemic that is PREDICTABLE, PREVENTABLE
and CURABLE. I have worked with some of the most serious aggression
cases out there that already have police reports on them. In thirty
years, I have yet to see an animal that can't be turned around with
the appropriate information and accurate behavioral protocol. But the
correct diagnosis is of quintessential importance in solving the problem,
which is where the veterinary expertise is so vital to the accurate
resolution, as veterinarians have spent years of training in diagnosis. PEOPLE
CAN'T KNOW WHAT THEY DON'T KNOW, and hence, we are training our
animals unconsciously to be aggressive. No one sets out to have an aggressive,
out-of-control, dysfunctional animal, any more than they set out to
have a dysfunctional human family. But through unconscious conditioning
and misinformation, we've got millions of both. And it's a problem
that can be easily resolved with the proper information and awareness.
Our belief system is that "Awareness is Curative". VETERINARY
VETERAN VIEWPOINT One
of the many advantages to being in a profession for a long time is the
opportunity to recognize patterns and shifts. For instance, over the
last 25 years, the animal has moved from the backyard into the bedroom,
which is an outstanding change in terms of people recognizing the true
treasures animals really are. But with that has come a desperate need
for an animal parenting™ guide to help people to understand
the dynamics around having a loving and balanced relationship with a
4-footed family member. We don't have a guide for parenting our own
species, much less another,
so needless to say, there's also a fallout from this change in the family
dynamics. There are phenomenal revelations from this new relationship,
but unfortunately, the downside is an increase in animal aggression,
from unconscious behavior on our part. Fortunately, in my experience,
this is a problem that is PREDICTABLE, PREVENTABLE and CURABLE,
and one I'm dedicated to keeping in the public awareness. In
summary, Animal Parenting™ is honoring nature's way of raising
and maintaining our 4-footed family members.... with roots and wings.
This is NOT achieved by using any tricks, treats,
drugs or external controls of any kind. It requires using
a conscious foundation of L, T, R, CC: LOVE, TRUST, RESPECT
and a COMMITMENT to CONSISTENCY. And most importantly, being aware
of the fact that you're working with an incredibly intelligent, sentient
being, who is multi-sensorial 24/7, and capable of learning virtually
anything in record speed if taught effectively. IN ORDER TO TEACH EFFECTIVELY …and disseminate this information to as
many people as possible, in addition to radio and TV, I have an audiobook
series called Veterinary Housecall Series by the Sea. The first
Housecall is called "Parenting Your K-9 Angel", which
is a three hour audiobook with both preventive behavioral information
and preventive veterinary medical information, covering nutritional,
dermatological, parasitic, dental and reproductive recommendations,
etc. The combination of traditional veterinary medicine, behavioral
medicine, mind-body medicine, nutritional medicine and family dynamics
provides a definitive road map to meet the mental,
emotional, spiritual and physical needs of your 4-footed family member. I
have purposely made this Housecall in audio form to allow people
to relax and multi-task while learning ... ie. drive and listen. Also,
behavioral problems occur with all sorts of different factors, but to
resolve it is a family affair. Hence, a 5-year-old may not be able to
read, and the 95-year-old may have vision problems, but everyone can
listen and hear the same information, and that way, you'll all be equally
prepared to resolve it together. Since the chief goal of Animal
Parenting™ is to promote peace and harmony with effective and
accurate information, I invite you to visit our audiobook section, to
view the audio inside and out, and know that there's no greater gift
you can give to anyone you love than.... PEACE, whether at Christmas
time or year-round. True "peace on earth" starts in the
home. FOR
MORE INFORMATION You can click on What
Are We Up To?, and read about our projects and monthly
presentations at Borders Bookstore** in Sand City, California.
If you Iive on the Monterey Peninsula or plan on visiting, come and
join us at Borders on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:30 pm.
We've been there every month for the last 5 years, and we'll be happy
to help you with your behavioral and physiological questions. Since God gave me
such a big mouth, both Tosey and I enjoy radio and TV interviews as
well as individual presentations and workshops, so anyone wishing further
information is welcome to contact us at AnimalParenting@aol.com
and/or The Animal Care Clinic
@ (831) 624-4972. Together, with accurate information and dedication,
I know this an epidemic which can be solved, as it doesn't take any
research or fund-raising for a vaccine. It just takes having a commitment
to caring and responsibility. Thank you for visiting, and we look forward to seeing
you again soon!!! All the Best to You from, Joann Marie Donahoe,
DVM & Tosey
